Strength in Unity, Vote Together

6 December 2025

The No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po last week caused significant casualties, plunging the entire Hong Kong community into profound grief and pain. This devastating blaze not only wrenched the hearts of everyone in the city but also people across the motherland. Along with everyone, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, and his colleagues hold the more than 1,900 affected families and 4,000 residents of Wang Fuk Court close in their thoughts.

While this merciless fire has brought profound sorrow, society must resume normal functioning speedily for the continued development and progress of Hong Kong, which relies on the sustained cooperation, effective checks and balances, and benign interaction between the Government and the Legislative Council (“LegCo”).

The Chief Executive has announced that the LegCo election will proceed as scheduled on 7 December and stressed that LegCo members are undoubtedly the partners that the Government needs the most in the reform at this critical moment of post-disaster support and rebuilding. Ombudsman Chan earnestly appeals to all colleagues and voters for casting their votes tomorrow to elect capable LegCo members with aspirations and commitment. This will enable the new term of the LegCo, upon assuming office next January, to be swift and effective in taking forward critical tasks.
