Ombudsman encourages interns to contribute youthful energy upon commencement of summer internship programme

22 July 2026

The Office of The Ombudsman’s inaugural summer internship programme has commenced. The programme drew enthusiastic responses from more than 140 local university students, with five selected as interns after a rigorous process.

At the opening ceremony held on the first day of the programme, the interns interacted closely with the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan. Talking with each of them, Mr Chan heard about their motivations and expectations for joining the programme. He also encouraged them to actively participate in public affairs, recognise the importance of good governance, and work together to foster a positive complaint culture, thereby contributing their youthful energy to the development of society and the country.

The interns were then assigned to the Office’s Direct Investigation Division, Complaints Investigation Division, External Relations Section and Information Technology Section. During the first two weeks, they joined the Office’s engagement activity with advisers, hearing first-hand the Ombudsman’s sharing on the Office’s annual work results and the advisers’ professional views. The Ombudsman’s annual meeting with Legislative Council members further deepened their understanding of the Office’s operations.
