Ombudsman attends opening ceremony cum seminar of National Security Education Day

The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, today (15 April) attended on invitation the opening ceremony cum seminar of the National Security Education Day. The theme of this year is “Proactively Align with the 15th Five-Year Plan; Follow a Holistic Approach to Development and Security”. The Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Xia Baolong, attended the ceremony as the officiating guest and delivered a keynote speech via video link. Other officiating guests included the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”), Mr John Lee; the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government (“CPG”) in the HKSAR and the National Security Adviser to the HKSAR Committee for Safeguarding National Security, Mr Zhou Ji; and the Head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the CPG in the HKSAR, Mr Dong Jingwei.
Mr Chan stated that national security is the cornerstone of social stability and economic prosperity. The HKSAR Government organises a series of activities every year to mark the National Security Education Day, enabling the public to deepen the understanding and learn about how to protect national security. The Office will also continue to organise relevant training regularly to further raise all staff’s awareness of safeguarding national security. Proactively aligning with the 15th Five-Year Plan, the Office will strive to improve the standard of public administration, foster social harmony, and make greater efforts and contributions to maintaining a secure and stable environment for Hong Kong’s development.
