Ombudsman attends Legislative Council General Election kick-off ceremony and urges staff and the public to vote

23 October 2025

The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, today (23 October ) attended the 2025 Legislative Council (“LegCo”) General Election kick-off ceremony, jointly organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”) and the Electoral Affairs Commission (“EAC”). Under the theme “Join the Election, Together We Create the Future”, the event was officiated by the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, and the Chairman of the EAC, Mr Justice David Lok, both of whom delivered remarks. The ceremony drew enthusiastic participation from Executive Council members, LegCo members, senior government officials and representatives from various sectors of the community.

The Chief Executive, Mr Lee encouraged all sectors of society to cast their solemn vote on polling day. He also urged public and private organisations as well as patriotic groups to fulfil their social responsibilities by encouraging staff to vote and extending all reasonable support to facilitate their participation. Civil servants, he emphasised, should lead by example and actively take part in voting.

Mr. Chan remarked, “Since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law and the enhancement of the electoral system, the HKSAR’s LegCo has made notable strides. We strongly believe that the upcoming election will further reflect the HKSAR’s commitment to executive-led governance and effectively and comprehensively implement the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong”, thereby reinforcing the foundation for the region’s stability and development. The Office fully supports the HKSAR Government’s efforts to promote the election and calls on the public, especially its staff as well as their families and friends, to actively participate in voting. Arrangements will be made to facilitate staff in exercising their right to vote on election day, thus fulfilling their civic and social responsibilities and contributing to good governance and the continued prosperity of the HKSAR.”
