Ombudsman Attended Reception Celebrating 98th Anniversary of Founding of Chinese People’s Liberation Army

The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, was invited by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (“PLA”) Hong Kong Garrison to attend a reception yesterday (30 July) celebrating the 98th anniversary of the founding of the PLA.
Held at the Ngong Shuen Chau Barracks, the reception was officiated by prominent dignitaries, including the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”); Director of the Liaison Office, Head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security, and Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; and military representatives. About 400 guests attended the grand and lively event, including principal officials of the HKSAR Government, Hong Kong deputies to the National People’s Congress and members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and guests from various sectors.
Mr Chan expressed his great honour in representing our Office at the PLA’s 98th anniversary celebration. He thanked the Hong Kong Garrison for its dedicated service in safeguarding the territory over the past 28 years since reunification with the motherland, faithfully performing its defence duties, and making significant contributions to upholding national sovereignty, security and development interests, as well as the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
