ANE: International Ombudsman Summit 2024 and Hong Kong Ombudsman 35th Anniversary Reception to be held on 3 December

To celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the establishment of the Office of The Ombudsman, the Office will especially host the first ever International Ombudsman Summit. Members of the media are welcome to attend and cover this significant event. Details are as follows:

The Summit is themed “Ombudsman in a Changing World: Learning from the Past; Preparing for the Future”. The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, will give the welcome message, while the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, will deliver the opening remarks. In addition, a multitude of ombudsmen, their representatives and experts in the field from multiple countries and regions will serve as keynote speakers. The Summit draws over 140 Mainland and overseas guests, including many ombudsmen, from nearly 40 countries and regions across six continents. On the same evening upon conclusion of the Summit, we will hold the 35th Anniversary Reception. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”), Mr John KC Lee, will officiate and speak at the Closing Ceremony of the Summit and the 35th Anniversary Reception Ceremony, while The Ombudsman, Mr Chan Jick-chi Jack will propose a toast. The Reception will see an assemblage of about 230 Summit participants from all over the world, including a multitude of ombudsmen, their representatives, and professionals, as well as Consuls-General in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Deputies to the National People’s Congress, Hong Kong members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, members of the Executive Council and the Legislative Council, Secretaries of Departments, and Directors of Bureaux and Heads of Departments of the HKSAR Government. In addition, Mr Jack Chan will sign and exchange a Memorandum of Understanding with eight ombudsman institutions from across five continents with a view to fostering professional knowledge exchange and building long-term partnerships.
