On his second day in Shanghai, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, led the Office’s delegation and training programme participants, to visit Zhangjiang Robotics Valley and the Exhibition on Shanghai’s Sci-tech Innovation. Through observation of the cutting-edge advances in robotics, artificial intelligence, high-end manufacturing and smart cities at close range, they developed a deeper understanding of the motherland’s frontier technological developments and the practical application of new quality productive forces. On the same day, Ombudsman Chan and the delegation also toured Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, Shanghai Tower and the Party-mass Service Centre to study the city’s urban planning and grassroots governance system.

On the third day, the delegation and programme participants separately visited Xuhui Binjiang Planning Exhibition Centre and Xuhui District Urban Operation and Management Centre, where they learned about the district’s approach to urban transformation and smart governance. In addition, Ombudsman Chan and the delegation went to the Bund Origin for a close look at the successful integration of historic building revitalisation, cultural conservation and modern development.

Ombudsman Chan said, “The Shanghai visit has significantly broadened our staff’s horizons by providing direct exposure to the city’s remarkable achievements in municipal governance, advanced technology and cultural heritage preservation. Drawing on these insights, the Office will continue monitoring public administration in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”) so as to support the HKSAR Government in improving public services and governance effectiveness, thereby contributing to Hong Kong’s alignment with the motherland’s 15th Five-Year Plan and development strategies.”
