Ombudsman attended launch ceremony of activities in celebration of 105th anniversary of founding of Communist Party of China

The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, yesterday (1 July) attended upon invitation the launch ceremony of activities in celebration of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (“CPC”), jointly organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“HKSAR”) and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR (“LOCPG”), at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The solemn and grand ceremony, officiated by the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, the Director of the LOCPG, Mr Zhou Ji, the Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Mr C Y Leung, the Head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Dong Jingwei, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, Mr Cui Jianchun, the Political Commissar of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Mr Lai Ruxin, and the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, was attended by about 500 guests, including senior government officials, representatives of the organs of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong, former Chief Executives. Deputies to the National People’s Congress, HKSAR Members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Members of the Executive Council, Members of the Legislative Council, and important figures from various sectors of society.

 

Prior to the ceremony, the guests watched a live broadcast of the event on the celebration of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. At the event, the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China and Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission, Mr Xi Jinping, delivered an important speech, in which he paid tribute to the CPC’s glorious century-long journey in leading the Chinese people forward and strengthening national development. He also urged CPC members in the new era to uphold their original aspirations and honor their mission, while putting Party-building principles into practice, driving high-quality development of the Party and the country, and forging ahead into new frontiers in the pursuit of the Chinese dream.

 

Deeply honoured to represent his Office at the ceremony, Mr Chan noted that under the CPC’s wise leadership, the full implementation of the National 15th Five-Year Plan will provide the strongest safeguard for the HKSAR’s long-term prosperity and stability. As the independent watchdog of public administration in Hong Kong, this Office will continue to actively integrate into and serve the overall national development. By leveraging Hong Kong’s unique strengths and driving continuous improvement in public administration, the Office seeks to help ensure the steadfast and successful implementation of “one country, two systems” and contribute to the future development of both the motherland and Hong Kong.
