Congratulations on the 30th Anniversary of the Asian Ombudsman Association

16 April 2026

The Ombudsman of Hong Kong, China, Mr Jack Chan, extends his heartfelt congratulations to the Asian Ombudsman Association (“AOA”) on the momentous occasion of its 30th Anniversary today (16 April).

Over the past thirty years, the AOA has played a pivotal role in fostering the development of ombudsmanship and strengthening ombudsman institutions in Asia and beyond. The AOA has all along served as a unifying platform for Asian ombudsmen and oversight institutions to exchange ideas, build capacity and share best practices. Through training, research and exchange, AOA has enabled ombudsman institutions to effectively respond to people’s concerns and to uphold the principles of impartiality, independence and integrity.

As we mark this important milestone, we recognise the dedication and contribution of AOA’s past and present leadership and member institutions who have worked tirelessly to advance its mission. At the same time, we are also proud that the Office of the Ombudsman (“the Office”), Hong Kong, China, has been playing a significant role and contributing actively to AOA ever since its early preparatory stage, with the Office as a member of the Preparatory Committee prior to establishment; as a founding member; and The Ombudsman, as the Secretary of the AOA for almost three decades. The Office remains firmly committed to supporting the AOA and its efforts to promote excellence, collaboration and capacity building among ombudsman institutions. The Office wishes the AOA continued success in the years ahead and that it will continue to grow in strength and influence, while upholding the shared values of accountability, transparency and fairness in public administration.

To celebrate this important milestone of the AOA, the Office is most honoured to be the host of a special anniversary celebratory seminar and the 27th AOA’s Annual Board of Directors Meeting in Hong Kong on 1 December 2026 and compiling a commemorative booklet for the event. Under the theme of “30 Years of AOA’s Leadership – Strengthening Accountability, Partnership and Good Governance”, the Seminar will bring together ombudsmen from Asia and beyond to share their insights and experiences on the promotion and development of ombudsmanship, in recognition of AOA’s remarkable achievement over the past 30 years. The Office is honoured that the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has agreed to officiate as our special guest of honour. The Office looks forward to welcoming members of the international ombudsman community to Hong Kong for this significant occasion of the AOA.

Once again, the Office congratulates the AOA on reaching 30 remarkable years of leadership and wishes its continued success and many more years of excellence in serving the people and advancing administrative fairness across the continent.
